I knew of my career as a power engineer since I was a child, as even the youngest town resident recognises 250m high chimneys of Kurakhovska TPP. Everyone in the town knows that power units generate electricity and heat at the thermal power plant. As a senior engineer, I am responsible for the smooth operation of power units. The power units of our TPP operate in a load-following mode to maintain the balance of power grid. Therefore, it’s difficult for me to count the number of start-stops, as I have nearly seventeen years of experience behind me. I know for sure that when I see a higher load on a 200 MW power unit, it means that many thousands of Ukrainians have switched on light in their homes and hundreds of businesses have begun their operations. I know that my house and my son’s school will be warm thanks to the central heating generated by the TPP. After my shift, I do football training with my son, because sport and my job drive my life.
