Ukrtelecom has launched the project to develop optics in 300 settlements 1.5 months earlier than planned.
The company has started providing subscribers with high-speed Internet under the GPON optical network development project. At the first stage, the optics construction works are taking place in 16 regions countrywide such as Zaporizhia, Volyn, Ivano-Frankivsk, Rivne, Khmelnytsky, Chernivtsi, Mykolaiv, Odessa, Kherson, Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv, Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Cherkasy and Chernihiv where 40% of the networks (over 220 km) has been already laid.
Ukrtelecom is going to build almost 600 km of optics by the end of July and provide thousands of people residing in 65 settlements with 200 Mbit/s Internet access. Thus, locals will enjoy additional telecom services, in particular, Internet telephony and interactive TV. In fact, 26 villages have never had any internet connection until now.
The initiative aims to build more than 3,500 kilometres of fibre optic lines, covering nearly 300 towns and villages with broadband. Ukrtelecom implements the project together with Iskratel, a Slovenian telecoms company.
