In 2004 the SCM Group made a strategic decision to
enter the fast growing and emerging Ukrainian high technology market. The
precondition for the decision was the presence of SCM’s Astelit (Life:) operator on the mobile communications market.
In 2005-2006 SCM Group expanded its presence on the
communications market by acquiring “Farlep” and
“OptimaTelecom” Groups,
which provide fixed line communications services. Since 15 October 2008 the Farlep Optima
group provides services under the single umbrella brand Vega.
The decision to enter this segment of the
telecommunication business in the capacity of a strategic investor was governed
by the fact that this is a fast growing market in Ukraine and it has huge investment
potential.
At present the SCM Group is the owner of assets both
in mobile and fixed line communication sectors.
