FUIB - the first Ukrainian bank to have its foreign liabilities restructured
27 January 2010

Илья Архипов, директор по развитию бизнесаFirst, I'd like to say that one can hardly overestimate the results achieved by FUIB while restructuring its foreign liabilities: FUIB has successfully performed the task - completed an extensive process, which is unmatched for Ukraine. The initiative was extensive both in terms of amount (FUIB has restructured the whole liabilities portfolio of over USD 500m) and the process itself. The main challenge here was, first, to restructure different products. Besides, the process covered a big number of lenders (over 50). It's also important that the whole process was very civilized without any surprises for lenders or clients. Moreover, FUIB owned the process at all stages.

What are other important points about restructuring? First, its successful outcome means not only stability for FUIB, but also available resources for further development. In other words, the completed restructuring is not merely a single-time relief, as it guarantees a constant basis for cooperation with clients and further long-term development.

Of course, being FUIB shareholders we regard successful restructuring as a confirmation of trust from international organizations and our partners, while for the clients of the bank it’s a guarantee that they can feel confident with FUIB, as well as search and find new cooperation opportunities.

Finally, I'd like to thank FUIB management for their role in the process. Not the outcome alone deserves praises, but also FUIB's performance in the last two years. Thus, if 2008 was the year of active and at times even aggressive growth, 2009 was a year of stabilization. Having analysed preliminary performance results for 2009, I can say that today FUIB is not only absolutely stable, but has splendid outlooks to move forward. And it's also the merit of the bank's management. Now looking into the future, we can talk about growth maybe not that active as in 2008, but a more careful one, and this is the most important thing, in my viewpoint. We are certain the bank will show a stable growth, mainly because we have already laid the basis for it and this is our achievement we feel proud of.
