Climate Action Certificate proves that the company is committed to environmental protection principles and meets international standards. Metinvest is the first and the only Ukrainian company, which is a full member of the World Steel Association (WSA).  Member companies (major world steel producers) are environmentally active and have a responsibility to maintain and improve the global climate.

Climate Action research programme was launched by the WSA in 2008. The research is expected to help assess the trends of ecological footprint of the metal industry until 2050 and define the priority actions and technologies for mining and metals businesses to cut GHG emissions. The current participants of the programme include major metal companies such as POSCO, ArcelorMittal, China Steel Corporation, Corus, Voestalpine and others.

Metinvest is implementing ten different projects at its enterprises applying Kyoto Protocol mechanisms. They include a coalmine methane recovery project, generation of heat and electricity out of exhaust gases and a number of other energy efficient actions.

"We understand that our Ukrainian companies have the potential to reduce their ecological footprint", stated Igor Syry. "Climate Action Certificate is one of the good proofs that we are serious and committed to our environmental strategy".

WORLD STEEL ASSOCIATION (WSA) represents approximately 180 steel producers (including 18 of the world's 20 largest steel companies), national and regional steel industry associations and steel research institutes.  Worldsteel members produce around 85% of the world's steel.

The World steel Climate Action recognition programme unites steel producers who recognize global climate change problem and who have fulfilled their commitment to participate in the worldsteel CO2 emissions data collection programme. The CO2 emissions data were collected at all Metinvest companies by environmentalists of the managing company during July-August 2009. More information about the program Climate Action:
